Tholen, Zeeland, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 1014931
Provided by: route.nl
Your route starts at Hart van Tholen. The island of Tholen is wonderfully peaceful, perfect for a bike ride, with fields and meadows stretching between hamlets and numerous old windmills. At the beginning of the eleventh and twelfth centuries, the island was flooded by the sea, after which the first dikes were constructed. The charming fortified town of Tholen owes its name to the toll levied there around the fourteenth century on the Scheldt-Rhine Canal and the Striene. From here, you head west until you reach the Oosterschelde. Across the estuary, you look out over Zuid-Beveland. Afterwards, you cycle past windmills and through meadows to Sint Annaland. At Nieuw-Vossemeer, you cross the water briefly for a visit to Brabant.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
