Tour of Kootwijkerzand and Boswachterij Kootwijk from Voorthuizen

Your cycling route starts at Ackersate Holiday Park. The Houtbeek near Stroe dates from the last ice age when meltwater cut a channel in the landscape. A great base: as far back as the Stone Age, hunter-gatherers set up their temporary hunting camps here. From here you drive to Kootwijk, where you will find nice places to stop for a cup of coffee. Kootwijk is known for the Kootwijkerzand: an unexpected desert-like sand plain of about 700 hectares where plants reach full maturity under harsh conditions. A very special area! You will also find the quiet, dense forests of Boswachterij Kootwijk here. Sometimes you cycle under the canopy of deciduous trees, other times you ride between fragrant conifers. Along the meadows and heathlands the horizon seems to be miles away.
