Walking around the fens and the bogs

The starting point of this route is in the middle of the rural area of the Meierij: Sint-Oedenrode. On the edge of the Vresselse Bos lies the Vresselse Hut. Sit down here for a nice snack and drink. Enjoy the peace and quiet in the Vresselse Bos and experience the Burgundian hospitality at the Vresselse Hut. The municipality of Sint-Oedenrode bears the title The green heart of the Meierij and that is not without reason. If you walk through the Vresselse Bos now, it is hard to imagine that in the previous century there was hardly a tree to be seen here. The area consisted largely of sand drifts and heathland. Farmers who suffered greatly from the drifting sand lived on the edges of the area. In order to protect the fields, it was decided to afforest the drifting sands. At that time, almost exclusively coniferous species were used.
