Watersnoodmonument

The flood monument on the Hoge Heijningsedijk was erected in memory of the 76 residents of the municipality of Fijnaart and Heijningen who were killed during the flood disaster of February 1953. In the base of the monument is the name of the soldier who died in the rescue work: Johannes Everardus Willemsen. The monument was unveiled in February 1955 and extended after the municipal reorganization (1997) for all victims of the new municipality. In 2008 the entire monument was restored.
