Corn mill The "Phenix" is an old grain and hulling mill which, thanks to a thorough refurbishment, still works perfectly today. The mill is located on a site where milling was already carried out in 1629. However, the Phenix dates from 1880. The name already indicates: the mill was built after its predecessor was struck by lightning during a heavy thunderstorm, causing it to burn out completely. The rods of the mill are 18 meters long and feature the Old Dutch fence with sails. The device consists of a couple of grinding stones and some other tools. The mill is the only ground sailor-flour mill in the province of Friesland. Volunteer millers regularly operate the mill to break rye and crush wheat. This is processed by the local baker into delicious rye bread, which is part of the 'Amelands Produkt'.
