Country house
Meerzigt
While many country estates have long since disappeared or been rebuilt beyond recognition, the stately Meerzigt has been preserved in almost its original 17th century condition. The regent Jacob Thierens (1626-1678) had a country house built in 1677 in front of an existing farm. There is some uncertainty about the year of construction of the farm. Meerzigt can only be clearly distinguished on a map from 1687. The farm was probably built just after the Driemanspolder was drained in 1672.
