To the Zuidlaardermeer from Esdorp Vries

On the road along the streams and esdorps of the Drentsche Aa National Landscape. With another special discovery: the Zuidlaardermeer.

While almost every other area in the Netherlands was influenced by human hands, people here took the landscape as it lay. As a result, the characteristic identity of this 150-year-old esdorp landscape was preserved. The Drentsche Aa National Landscape is the best preserved stream and esdorp landscape in Western Europe. You will see many Saxon farms around the village green, fields on the rounded ash trees and hay fields in the lower stream valley.

Zuidlaardermeer
On the other side of this beautiful area you will find another gem: the Zuidlaardermeer, a natural widening of the Hunze river. Via Zuidlaren, a village with seven village greens, you drive back via the Drentsche Aa National Landscape.
