In the border area between Limburg and North Brabant it is almost old-fashioned quiet. Come experience it for yourself with this beautiful walking route through the De Pan nature reserve.
The pan
The first part through De Pan leads you through a dry coniferous forest with fifty-year-old pines. It is wonderfully quiet walking here. Ideal to leave the everyday hustle and bustle behind. And to chat with friends and family. Kempen heath sheep graze on the heath, so that the grass and young trees disappear between the heath plants. In the middle of the forest is Hoef aan de Pan, a former farm and inn from 1831.
Someren-Heide
The mining village of Someren-Heide was once on the border between State Brabant and the Spanish Upper Guelders. Transit duties had to be paid at the boundary marker that once stood at the edge of the forest. With their invasion in 1794, the French ended this toll place. The original border marker was moved to Someren in 1899 in honor of Queen Wilhelmina's accession to the throne. In 1995, the originally four meter high pole was brought back to Someren-Heide. You can admire it on Kerkendijk.
