This historic route introduces you to impressive places just across the border in Belgium, which are connected to the Second World War. 17 km from the German border, Fort Battice from the 1930s was one of the first positions attacked by the German army on 10 May 1940. The garrison consisted of 750 men. During the 12-day siege of the enemy, 34 of them lost their lives. Inside you can see how the ammunition elevator of an artillery building works, or how a 175 HP generator was used to provide electricity to the fortress. Back you drive past the American Cemetery of Henri-Chapelle. 7989 fallen soldiers are buried here, most of whom gave their lives during the Ardennes offensive in December 1944.
