Stage 9 is the last part of the Fietserspad and it is certainly not the least route. You cycle on this route from Montfort to Maastricht through Sittard and along the edge of Valkenburg. Get to know beautiful sights, various Limburg villages and towns and the hills of the Heuvelland.
Mills, castles and hills
Right at the start of this route you will pass two sights. You first cycle past a place where archaeologists have found Roman coins and then you can take a look at the ruins of Kasteel Montfort. Then you set course for Sittard, Spaubeek and Nuth. Along the way you can admire various water mills and castles, including the Millener Mill, De Bockenhof Castle and Bokkenheufke Castle. You can also settle down at Gasterij Kasteel Terborgh for a snack and a drink. Then it's time to conquer the typical hills of South Limburg.
Cozy Maastricht
The terminus of the Fietserspad is on the outskirts of Maastricht at Sint-Pietersberg. To get here you cycle right through the center of Maastricht.
Views over the ENCI quarry
You will eventually arrive at the edge of Sint-Pietersberg. Near this point you will find a special viewing platform that floats above the ENCI quarry, an old limestone quarry. This quarry is gradually being transformed into a beautiful nature reserve. Be sure to take a look at this viewing platform and enjoy the view.
