The official Pieterpad is not for everyone. This long-distance route mainly runs on paths that you can only walk on, but maybe you like cycling more than walking. We have a solution for that: the Fietserspad, a cycle route that roughly follows the path of the Pieterpad, but on roads where you are allowed to cycle. Stage 3 takes you along stages 10, 11 and 12 of the Pieterpad.
Nature reserve Lemelerberg
The starting point of this stage is at Hotel & Restaurant Wildthout on the outskirts of Ommen. Start your day here quietly or get on your bike right away and go on the road. From Ommen you set course for Nieuwebrug and then to Lemele. Along the way you cycle across the nature reserve Lemelerberg. Enjoy quiet heaths, deciduous forests, sparkling springs and drifting sand plains in this nature reserve just outside Lemele. In the spring and autumn you could just come face to face with the sheep that graze here.
National Park De Sallandse Heuvelrug
From Lemele you continue cycling via Hellendoorn and Nijverdal. Then it's time to get acquainted with the National Park De Sallandse Heuvelrug, one of the largest contiguous nature areas in Overijssel. From the hills in this park you can enjoy beautiful views of rolling moors and further you cycle through lush forests.
The terminus in Laren
You then cycle via Holten to Laren. This village was probably founded around the 13th century. Around 1650 the village got a chapel, which was replaced in 1835 by the Church of Laren. The village is mainly known for the many estates, castles and country houses that you will find there. Here you can take a look at Huis Verwolde, a nobleman's house from 1776. The country house is now furnished as a museum. Hotel Landgoed Ehzerwold, just outside Laren, is the end point of this stage.
